Aluminum Welding Services
Aluminum welding requires specialized skill, precision, and the right equipment to ensure strong, clean, and durable results. At Fabrication Pros, we provide expert aluminum welding services for projects of all sizes — from structural fabrication to custom repairs and mobile welding.
Lightweight, strong and corrosion-resistant
Aluminum is lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and widely used in construction, manufacturing, and transportation. However, it’s also more challenging to weld than steel due to its high thermal conductivity and oxide layer. Successful aluminum welding demands advanced techniques, clean preparation, and experienced welders who understand the material’s behavior.
In practice that means heat spreads away from the joint quickly, and the thin oxide skin on the surface melts at a far higher temperature than the aluminum underneath. Aluminum also gives little colour warning before it melts. Settings and habits that work on steel do not carry over, which is why we treat aluminum as its own trade inside the shop.

What we weld
From structural fabrication to custom repairs, these are the aluminum jobs we see most in Calgary and surrounding areas.
Frames, brackets, platforms, racks, ramps and railings fabricated in aluminum, or repaired where they have cracked or bent.
Railings, ramps and stairsAluminum tanks and piping welded with fully fused, leak-free joints. Cracked and leaking aluminum fuel tanks on trucks and equipment are a common repair.
Aluminum fuel tank repairAluminum trailer frames, ramps, decks and truck parts repaired and reinforced, so they can go back to work.
Trailer welding and repairBoat and marine parts, brackets and mounts, plus aluminum components on machinery and equipment.
Equipment welding and repairOne-off parts, custom brackets and prototypes made from your drawing, a sample part or your measurements.

(403) 879-3443We use advanced TIG (GTAW) and MIG (GMAW) welding methods to achieve precise, high-quality welds. Every joint is cleaned, prepped, and inspected to ensure maximum strength and appearance. Whether it’s a new fabrication, a repair, or an on-site weld, our team delivers results that meet or exceed industry standards.
We check the alloy, thickness and condition of the part, or the cracks and damage, and decide whether to repair, reinforce or build new.
Oil, paint and corrosion come off first, then the oxide layer is removed with a dedicated stainless brush or grinding so the weld fuses properly.
We choose TIG (GTAW) or MIG (GMAW) to suit the thickness, the joint and the finish you need.
Every joint is checked for strength and appearance before the part goes back into service.
The right process for the job

TIG welding gives the welder fine control of heat and filler metal, which suits thin aluminum sheet, tight corners, repairs on cracked parts and welds that will stay visible. On aluminum it is normally run on AC, where part of each cycle helps break up the surface oxide so the filler can fuse with clean metal.

MIG welding feeds aluminum wire continuously, so it lays down weld faster on thicker plate and long seams. Aluminum wire is soft, so a spool gun or push-pull gun is often used to feed it reliably.
The filler wire, commonly 4043 or 5356, is chosen for the base alloy and how the part will be used. See 5356 vs 4043 aluminum filler and our GMAW (MIG) guide.

Parts that can travel are best welded in our Calgary shop, where cleaning, fit-up and conditions are easiest to control. When a trailer, tank or piece of equipment cannot be moved, our mobile welders come to you.
Outdoor aluminum welding needs shelter from wind so the shielding gas stays over the weld, and we set up for that on site. Learn more about mobile welding repair and portable welding services.

We use TIG (GTAW) and MIG (GMAW) welding. TIG suits thin material, precise repairs and visible welds; MIG is faster on thicker plate and longer seams. Our TIG welding and GMAW welding guides explain both.
Aluminum conducts heat away from the joint quickly and is covered by an oxide layer that has to be removed and broken up for the weld to fuse. It takes clean preparation and the right technique. We explain the details in why aluminum welding is different from steel.
Yes. We offer mobile and on-site welding options in Calgary and surrounding areas, for parts and equipment that cannot be brought to our shop. See mobile welding repair.

Yes. We repair aluminum diesel fuel tanks on heavy trucks, semi-trailers and construction equipment, including cracked seams, corrosion and pinhole leaks, and broken brackets. Details are on our aluminum diesel fuel tank repair page.
It depends on the base alloy and how the part is used. 4043 flows well and has a lower hot-cracking tendency on many 6xxx alloys, while 5356 gives higher weld strength and a closer colour match after anodizing. We choose the filler for each job; see 5356 vs 4043.
